The General
A station with no tale to tell Johnnie Gray dreamed of glory
He has two loves in his life
His locomotive and beautiful Annabelle LeeWhen war breaks loose and lays its deadly traps for him
Johnnie fears nothing
He risks his life
For his locomotive and for the beautyLove is always strongest
Far stronger than war
It knows how to turn water into wine
And lead into gold
It can reverse the course of time
And even make a slave of a brave manA station with no tale to tell
Johnnie Gray dreamed of glory
They dress him up, decorate him, salute him,
But all of that now seems so very small,
For in love, as in war,
There is only one victory
Peace restored, hearts reunited
Happiness for Annabelle and for JohnnieIn love, as in war,
There is only one victory
Peace restored, hearts reunited
Happiness for Annabelle and for Johnnie
Close your eyes
and let the stars
Catch upon your fingers
Like butterflies, my love
The night is beautiful
Come close to me
Open your wings wide
The Moon, Like an angel,
Keeps watch over you
If you are afraid to learn to fly
The beating of my heart
Says I am very near
I asked for a perfect sky
So that at last you could dream
Close your eyes
The night will be your friend
Fell how the wind
caresses your face
Let us wager that time
Is nothing but a mirage
The night is beautiful
Come close to me
Now we see only her
The moon, my love,
shines for youClose your eyes
and let the stars
Blaze with all their fire
Like immense suns, my love
The night is beautiful
Come close to me
Open your wings wideIt is you, my love,
Who shines for me
Fermes les yeux
Et laisses les étoiles
S'accrocher à tes doigts
Comme des papillons, mon amour
La nuit est belle
Approches-toi de moi
Ouvres grand tes ailes
La lune est telle un ange
Veille sur toi
Si tu as peur d'apprendre à voler
Les battements de mon coeur
Disent je suis tout près
J'ai demandé un ciel parfait
Pour que tu puisses enfin rêver
Fermes les yeux
La nuit sera ton amie
Sens comme le vent
Caresse ton visage
Gageons que le temps
Ne soit juste qu'un mirage
La nuit est belle
Approches-toi de moi
On ne voit plus qu'elle
La lune, mon amour
Brille pour toiFermes les yeux
Et laisses les étoiles
Briller de tout leurs feux
Comme d'immenses soleils, mon amour
La nuit est belle
Approches-toi de moi
Ouvres grand tes ailesC'est toi, mon amour
Qui brille pour moi
Carrying You (from Castle in the Sky)
Out beyond the setting sun,
And hidden from your eyes
Holding you apart from me.
Dancing across the skies.
When the heavens fill with stars,
In purple scented night
I know that you are one of them,
Shimmering bends of light
Shall we pack the things we have,
And go off just we two
Bread, a candle and a knife, just to see us through.
My father’s dreams still burning in my heart
My mother’s eyes ever smiling songs of love
The earth turns round and round,
Taking you away from me
Blinking, twinkling points of light, shining in the sky.
The earth turns round and round,
Taking you away from me
When will it swing back again, carrying you to me.

One Summer’s Day
(from Spirited Away)
Drawing a line across the blue sky
The whiteness of the airplane vapor trails
Continues forever and ever
As if it knows the futureTaking a shallow breath with my chest
Remembering both the hot cheeks
And the cold wind across my faceParalyzed by the thought of the future, my hands
And feet were freed by that calm, quiet voice
I yearn for those days, to the point of
Wanting to cry out, June one life
Shafts of the midsummer’s light
Scattered through the trees on to your shoulders

Orchestra of St. Luke’s
New York City’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL) and its acclaimed concert musicians make their artistic home at Carnegie Hall, where OSL has performed more than any other orchestra since its debut there in 1983. OSL’s annual season features a concert series in each of Carnegie Hall’s three venues as well as programs focused on contemporary composers at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, the rehearsal, recording, and performance facility built in 2011 by OSL in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards neighborhood. OSL proudly collaborates with Paul Taylor Dance Company in its Lincoln Center season each year and performs with a variety of artistic partners at venues throughout the city and beyond. Founded in 1974 when a group of virtuoso chamber musicians began performing together in Greenwich Village at The Church of St. Luke in the Fields, the ensemble later expanded into an orchestra before catching fire in New York’s classical music scene. Central to OSL’s mission, the Education and Community Engagement program presents free concerts to thousands of New York City public school students each year; offers the 130-student-strong Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s (YOSL), the city’s only youth orchestra under the umbrella of a professional group; and provides a mentorship program for pre-professional musicians.
OSL’s signature programming includes: the Orchestra of St. Luke’s Series presented by Carnegie Hall featuring OSL with an international roster of renowned guest soloists; the OSL Bach Festival, exploring J.S. Bach’s musical influence and presented in association with Carnegie Hall each June; the Chamber Music Series, which spotlights members of the orchestra in intimate chamber music performances; the Visionary Sounds series dedicated to 20th and 21st century music at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music; the DeGaetano Composition Institute which supports the development of emerging composers and commissions up to four new works for OSL each season; summer concerts at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts; an annual collaboration performing live with Paul Taylor Dance Company at Lincoln Center; and more. OSL champions composers from groups historically underrepresented in classical music. In recent seasons, it has presented works by Kinan Azmeh, Margaret Bonds, Valerie Coleman, Julius Eastman, Wynton Marsalis, Florence Price, Rita Dove, and Chen Yi, among others. OSL has participated in 120 recordings, four of which have won Grammy Awards, has commissioned more than 75 new works, and has given more than 200 world, U.S., and New York City premieres.
OSL’s Education & Community Engagement programs have been a staple of its work since it first produced a staged opera for New York City public school children in 1976. Today, OSL continues to produce its accessible, interactive, Free School Concerts program in addition to the 130-member Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s (YOSL) program, now in its 12th season and thriving; and the Chamber Music Mentorship Program, which provides professional development opportunities and workshops for pre-professional musicians.OSL opened The DiMenna Center for Classical Music in 2011 to remedy New York City’s lack of affordable first-rate rehearsal and recording space specialized for classical and instrumental music. Today, thousands of local and international musicians create work at The DiMenna Center – located in the nexus of Manhattan’s Hudson Yards neighborhood and the Times Square theater district – where they not only stage performances, but also rehearse, record, and broadcast music enjoyed throughout the city and the world.

MasterVoices
MasterVoices (Ted Sperling, artistic director) was founded in 1941 as The Collegiate Chorale by legendary conductor Robert Shaw, breaking barriers as one of the first interracial and interfaith choral ensembles of its era. That tradition continues today, with a diverse choral community and collaborations with world-class artists in musicals, operas, and choral works. The chorus has performed at the opening of the United Nations, at the Verbier and Salzburg Festivals, and with conductors such as Arturo Toscanini and Leonard Bernstein. This is MasterVoices’ third collaboration with Joe Hisaishi, at Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden.
Under the leadership of Tony Award winner Ted Sperling since 2013, recent projects include Sweet Smell of Success with Raúl Esparza, Lizzy McAlpine, and Ali Louis Bourzgui, Anyone Can Whistle with Vanessa Williams, Lady In The Dark with Victoria Clark, Sheldon Harnick’s adaptation of Carmen, and the digital production of Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns (streaming on PBS’ AllArts), and commissioned works by Heather Christian, Jason Robert Brown, Ricky Ian Gordon, Michael Abels, Gregory Spears, Ted Hearne, Will Aronson, Marisa Michelson, Randall Eng, William C. Banfield, and Tariq Al-Sabir.
